In her new role, Freeman will lead a club guided by the Kiwanis International motto, “Serving the children of the world.” In Carthage, that motto is close to home. All year long, the club works to make a positive difference in the lives of local children, their families and the community they share.

What does the Kiwanis Club of Carthage do?

Throughout the year, the club supports initiatives that help families in need and make sure children have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Its ongoing work includes:

  • Back-to-school assistance, so local students can start the year with what they need
  • Christmas for Kids, the club’s signature holiday program for local children
  • The Illini West scholarship program, supporting students at Illini West High School
  • Community events that support neighbors facing challenges

How does the club grow the next generation of leaders?

Meeting immediate needs is an important part of the club’s mission, but the Kiwanis Club of Carthage is just as committed to investing in the next generation of community-minded leaders. Through its youth programs, the club helps young people discover the value of volunteering, build leadership skills and experience the rewards of helping others.

The club has established three youth service organizations, so students can get involved at every stage of their school years:

Each program introduces students to service at an early age and encourages them to carry a spirit of generosity and civic involvement into adulthood. By giving young people the chance to serve their schools and community, the Kiwanis Club of Carthage hopes to build a tradition of service that lasts for generations to come.

A year of service ahead

Freeman’s term began October 1, at the start of the Kiwanis year. As she steps into the role, the club’s work reflects its lasting commitment to supporting local families, serving children and inspiring people of all ages to make a difference.

Through community outreach, family assistance and an investment in youth leadership, the Kiwanis Club of Carthage continues to put its motto into action—one child, one family and one act of service at a time.

How can I get involved with the Kiwanis Club of Carthage?

The club meets at noon on the first and third Thursday of each month at Alfano’s, 93 S. Adams St. in Carthage, and anyone thinking about joining can attend three lunch meetings free. Find contact details on the Kiwanis Club of Carthage page.
